Here’s the general idea: lots of music sites use the whole “top fifty” or “top hundred” metrics laid out by Rolling Stone and other such places. Seeing as we met through video game sites, we decided that we would much rather deliberate between the best. Also, given that our editorial staff is small, a ballot set up doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Our awards work on a system of individual genres. Nominees for the genres are determined before deliberation begins, and are then narrowed down by elimination. This creates the set up we want, of having one clear winner and five near-winners instead of having to argue the merits of why one album is so many places above the other. Occasionally, as the year necessitates it, we’ll have joke categories.
With that said, here’s the past awards.
