Best G.O.O.D. Fridays Track Not on MBDTF

Here’s the deal. Kanye has done some goddamn amazing things in terms of his music this year. He went and released “Power” as a single during the summer, planned an album for the fall, and then was like “Yo, wouldn’t it be sick if I released a new song every week?” And he did. The result of that crazy idea became the “G.O.O.D. Fridays” series, a new song every week for free. This madness spawned songs like “Monster” and the amazing “Runaway Love (Remix)”, combining Raekwon and Justin Bieber and making it seem like some of the raddest shit ever. There was never a track that failed to impress me during its fourteen week stint, which made this choice extremely difficult when we excluded the three tracks that appeared on “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”.

But, hey, here’s our choice for the best “G.O.O.D. Fridays” that wasn’t on “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”.

Congratulations, “Christian Dior Denim Flow”.

You are a song with a fantastical opening combining strings, the lackluster voice of Kid Cudi and the swooning of John Legend. Then you lovingly tear it apart. You express the near-fetishistic adoration of fashion, goddy art, and straight-up rich snobbery that goes on in Kanye West’s mind with near perfection. This track, similar to most new Kanye songs, is schizophrenic to the max. At some point in the middle of the song, it decides to drop how fast and club-ready it previously was. It eventually devolves into a slower piece when Kid Cudi finishes the song with his verse, then with some awesome sounding distorted guitar that appears in songs on “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” like “Gorgeous”, and then the strings close it out. Almost how it started. This is one of Kanye’s many anthems. It’s personal to the absolute degree, features insanely dynamic verses, and the chorus catches you like no other.
