Andrew Vs. “Yonkers” by Tyler, The Creator (Track)

“Yonkers”, I feel, is an angry, messed up journal entry from a guy that feels kind of uncomfortable with himself and the rest of the world. I shouldn’t really speak for everyone, but this makes Tyler, The Creator one of the most relatable artists of the year.

His opening line: “I’m a fucking walking paradox–No, I’m not” makes its point extremely clear that he does not have it all together quite yet. Not only that, the point he makes is so goddamn slick and he becomes even more psychotic over the course of the song, just making him even slicker. He mentions stabbing Bruno Mars to death, shooting Haley Williams out of an airplane, and dancing around the house in some print panties.

One of my favorite parts though is his stab at Pitchfork in his final verse. His complaints are why I am here writing reviews. This why I want to make a difference, even though our attempts to do so are typically unseen.

With the batshit nuts Odd Future (Tyler and Hodgy Beats) performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon all fresh in my head, “Goblin” is now one of my most anticipated albums of 2011.

WINNER: “Yonkers” by Tyler, The Creator

WHY: This song is the shit.

  1. Something about “stab you with a pitchfork” doesn’t strike me as “fuck pitchfork” as much as “you hate me? the base of your whole culture loves me, so fuck you.”

That said, Goblin is going to be fucking crazy.
